A recent BlackRock report reveals that the cryptocurrency industry has achieved rapid global adoption, surpassing the growth rates of mobile phones and the internet by reaching 300 million users in just 12 years—compared to 15 and 21 years respectively for the internet and mobile phones. This surge is attributed to younger generations’ digital nativity, global economic and political shifts, and the advancing digital transformation of finance. BlackRock, managing over $10 trillion in assets, highlighted the role of ETFs, including its iShares Bitcoin ETF and the newly launched Spot Bitcoin ETF on Cboe Canada, in further integrating digital assets into traditional financial markets and broadening investor access worldwide.
The crypto industry reached 300 million users in 12 years, outpacing the adoption speed of both the internet and mobile phones due to digital native trends, global economic shifts, and ongoing financial digitalization.
BlackRock emphasized ETFs' significance in the expanding market, notably with its iShares Bitcoin ETF and launch of a Spot Bitcoin ETF in Canada, which are accelerating traditional investment integration with cryptocurrencies.

Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy has reinforced its commitment to Bitcoin by acquiring an additional 2,530 BTC for $243 million, raising its overall Bitcoin holdings above 450,000 BTC. The purchase, made at an average price of $95,972 per BTC and funded through the sale of 710,425 MicroStrategy shares, aligns with the company's long-standing strategy that began in August 2020 and continues to impact its stock performance positively. As Bitcoin shows robust momentum heading into 2025, MicroStrategy is set on a path to further expand its digital asset reserves under its ambitious 21/21 plan, which aims to raise significant equity and fixed-income capital to fuel future acquisitions.
